Why?

What is going on? Why now? What can we do? What’s going to happen? How long will this situation last? These and many other questions come to mind. And the worst thing is that we don’t have the answers.

When it comes to our Emmanuel Children’s Home, the RIE, there are also many questions hanging in the air. We’ve just said goodbye to 2019, a year filled with celebrations and events to mark our Jubilee: 50 years since the RIE was set up. And there has been a fantastic response from Christians, churches and organisations which support us. There is the possibility of being given a leasehold on a plot of land in the borough of Sant Just Desvern to build a new Home. Our aim is to become a charitable foundation, to be able to tackle the work in the best possible way. And now, suddenly, all that has been put on hold and makes no sense right now. The general meeting to decide these matters has been cancelled. The children have been packed off to their biological or foster families and must stay in isolation until the coronavirus “siege” is over.

I don’t have answers, but I do have hope and faith that our Lord is in control; we may fail to understand things, but God, in His sovereignty, will put everything in its rightful place and, I am absolutely certain, will continue to hold us in his hand.
