Ukraine is near and dear to us
It’s not such a distant place. Its towns and cities feel close. Its houses, familiar. Its streets, like ours. We have friends there. We still send them our best wishes when its their birthday, as it is this month. We send our love, stories, news, and tears, through WhatsApp messages. The girl in the photo is one of our former charges here at the “Resi”, pictured with her mother, a few years ago, in Ukraine, after receiving a package from us. The little girl is now an adult; her mother looks as young as ever.
Worries, nervousness, sadness and suffering are not far away. We suffer here with them the madness of war. We express our love as best we can. We show solidarity by sending clothes, food… and many prayers to God. Just as the tragedy of Covid brought suffering and death to various friends and relatives, the horrors of war are a living nightmare we must face, with all its menace and effects. Yet another reason for offering solidarity and supporting charitable organisations that help the weak, the vulnerable, the victims. Suffering neighbours are nearby. We want to continue to celebrate birthdays.
Prayer topics
(1) *** We pray for friends, families and churches that are suffering the ravages of war in Ukrainian territory or the odyssey of refugees in nearby countries. That their lives will be touched with hope from the Lord as they contemplate intense suffering and death.
(2) *** That God will give us strength to help vulnerable people around us who need social, psychological and spiritual help, with the hope the Gospel brings.
